Holmfirth lunch club issues warm invitation to locals for 'special edition' three-course Big Lunch
A vital community hub is throwing open its doors to welcome new faces next week as part of a massive nationwide celebration of friendship and volunteering
The Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Holmfirth Lunch Club has announced it will host a special edition of ‘The Big Lunch’ this month, inviting residents from across the area to connect over food and conversation.
While the popular club usually meets weekly to serve up a nutritious two-course meal, June’s celebration at Holmfirth Civic Hall will feature an upgraded three-course lunch and a fundraising tombola—all prepared, organised, and run by the club’s team of dedicated volunteers.
The event takes place as part of a blockbuster weekend of community action across the UK, which sees the Eden Project's Big Lunch join forces with The Big Help Out 2026 (running June 5-8) to inspire people to get involved in local causes.
Diane Phillips, Volunteer Coordinator for the RVS Holmfirth Lunch Club, said the team is eager to welcome old friends and fresh faces alike: "Moments like The Big Help Out and Big Lunch are a wonderful opportunity for people to come together, meet new faces, enjoy good company and feel more connected to their local community.
"Whether you come along with friends or on your own, everyone will receive a warm welcome, and we’d encourage anyone interested to join us."
Beyond providing a welcoming social space for residents, the afternoon doubles as an open door for anyone curious about giving back to their neighbourhood.
Organisers will be on hand throughout the lunch to chat casually with anyone interested in joining the volunteer rota.
The nationwide Big Help Out initiative has mobilised millions of volunteers across the country since its inception in 2023. For 2026, the RVS has launched a new digital platform called GoVo to make finding beginner-friendly, flexible local roles even easier.
