'It’s a real milestone': Award-winning cheesemonger celebrates 13 years trading in Leeds

It’s been 13 brielliant years for George & Joseph Cheesemongers 🧀

A Leeds cheesemonger has said that he is “immensely proud” that his award-winning shop is celebrating its 13th anniversary.

George & Joseph Cheesemongers is marking 13 lucky years in Chapel Allerton by thanking the local community who have supported them over the years.

The business was founded by Stephen Fleming, who began trading at fairs and farmers’ markets, before opening its first shop on Regent Street in 2013.

Four years later, George & Joseph moved to a larger location on Harrogate Road and grew in success by organising events and even creating a cheese subscription club.

To date, the cheese shop has delivered over 15,000 online orders, and sold over 27,000 pieces of cheese in 2025 alone.

Stephen: “Reaching 13 years of trading is a real milestone. What started as a passion for cheese has become a career I could never have imagined.

“We’ve moved into much larger premises, introduced events, launched our cheese subscription club and expanded to nationwide delivery.”

Bestsellers at George & Joseph include their Advent calendars and their cheese towers which are designed especially for weddings and other celebrations.

Alongside selling plenty of cheese, George & Joseph has also become an accredited training provider for the Academy of Cheese, and has trained people from the UK, France, and Canada.

However, though it’s been a busy 13 years, Stephen isn’t ready to slow down in the slightest.

Stephen said: “In many respects, it feels like we’re just getting started. We’ve also weathered the pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, so it certainly hasn’t always been easy.

“I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved and incredibly grateful to all the fellow cheese enthusiasts who have supported us along the way, as well as our wonderful neighbours, many of whom we now count as friends.

“Hopefully, the biggest thing people take away when they visit us is that we genuinely love nothing more than talking about cheese and helping them discover something new.”
