Karen Wright column: Taking train for glamping good adventure

What with moving house and a patch of poor health I have been unable to travel as often as I normally would, and I have been chomping at the bit to get away somewhere.

I decided to buy a two together railcard as I anticipate more train travel this year as my youngest daughter is in London and my eldest in Brighton so driving can be a bit long winded. The card gives thirty percent off fares, so it is worth it.

I booked a Glamping Pod at the Brighton Caravan and Motorhome Club site, as it is ideally placed for visiting family and the area too.

The pods are very classy and well-appointed, so we got off our train and headed straight to the site to get settled in and enjoy the amazing weather. I called at the local shop for a few groceries, but due to the heat I only prepared cold meats and salads and

stayed hydrated with water and wine!

The first day we headed into Brighton via the local bus and caught up with my daughter and the grandchildren. We went to the beach, but the waves were a bit too lively for me so I didnt take a dip.

The next day I was determined to get into water but this time we took the bus to Saltdean where I knew there was an Art Deco Lido and being an Art Deco fan I was keen to visit it.

Lidos were very popular in the 1920s and 1930s and were extremely stylish architecturally. Lidos are outdoor swimming pools and there is something special in my eyes to be able to swim in the fresh air.

It was so hot, in the middle of yet another heatwave, so it was heavenly to float about and relax.

After a few days in the Glamping pod it was time to leave and catch the train into London to visit my youngest daughter, not just a train of course, also a tube and a bus. With the overwhelming heat I was delighted when she met us off the bus and suggested we lunch in the Wetherspoons which was right by the bus top in Muswell Hill.
