Much-loved Japanese sandwich shop opens new restaurant in Leeds
The family-run restaurant has moved into a new space
A much-loved Japanese sandwich shop has opened a new Leeds restaurant, after relocating to a bigger site.
Shokupan first opened in Wellington Street in 2022, serving Japanese sandwiches made with shokupan - a style of milk bread - as well as rice bowls, coffee and Japanese-inspired cakes.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Alan and Alison Tang, who both quit their jobs to follow their foodie dream. And it’s proven such a hit that the pair snapped up a new restaurant on Central Road, after outgrowing their former home.
Shokupan’s new two-storey restaurant, located next door to cafe House of Koko, opened on Friday (July 17).
The menu includes the popular sandos - including katsu chicken, pork and celeriac - as well as katsu curries, rice bowls, fries and rotating specials, including the katsu chori sando.
Posting on social media after the opening day, Alan and Alison said: “What a fantastic first day!
“Thank you to all our amazing customers for making it such a lovely experience. Your support, kind words and patience mean the world to us.”
Shokupan’s new Central Road restaurant is open 11am-4pm on Monday-Saturday.
