National Fish and Chip Day: Yorkshire is the best region for the nation’s favourite dish according to research
Yorkshire has been officially crowned Britain’s fish and chip capital 🐟
Yorkshire has outperformed every other county in Britain in new research to discover the best place for fish and chips.
Four Yorkshire seaside towns feature in Simply Sea Views’ list of the top 10 fish and chip destinations across the UK to mark National Fish and Chip Day.
Whitby ranks highest in second place, followed closely by Hornsea in third, then Scarborough in fourth, while Bridlington ranks tenth place.

The Yorkshire locations were beaten to the number one spot by Hunstanton in the North East of England.
The research involved analysing 50 seaside towns across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, looking at factors including fish and chip shop density, customer ratings, review volumes, seafront locations, independent ownership and National Fish & Chip Award recognition.
Across the county's highest-ranked destinations, the vast majority of businesses are independently owned, with many family-run establishments continuing traditions that stretch back generations.
Yorkshire’s dominance in the rankings highlights its strong independent fish and chip culture and reaffirms the region’s long-held reputations as one of the best places for fish and chips.
Matt Fox, CEO at Simply Sea Views, said: "Everyone has a strong opinion on where you'll find the best fish and chips, but Yorkshire's performance in this study is hard to argue with.
"To have four towns in the UK's top 10 is an incredible achievement and shows just how deeply fish and chips are woven into Yorkshire's coastal culture.
"For anyone planning a seaside day trip this summer, Yorkshire's coast has made a very compelling case for itself."
