Pontefract food blogger reviews hidden gem restaurants across the Wakefield district

A food blogger from Pontefract with more than 50,000 TikTok followers is reviewing some hidden gems in the district.

Jordan Claybrough – known as The Tight Englishman on social media – creates video reviews showing food being prepared, venues and menus, and taste tests of the meals themselves.

Jordan said he wanted to draw attention to businesses that may have gone under the radar.

He said: “I want to be the TripAdvisor of Wakefield. I want people to come onto my page and know where to eat."

Jordan has built his brand over several years.

He said: “When Covid hit, I found I was eating at the same restaurant all the time. I felt nervous to go to new places.

“When I travel abroad I try a lot of different place and I thought ‘why don't I do that in the UK?’

"When I got a bigger following I thought 'why am I going to Leeds, Shefield and York when Wakefield and the district has so much to offer?'”

Videos uploaded to TikToK include a review of a £20 mixed grill in Wakefield, a Sunday roast in a bus station and a Chinese meal in a burrito.

There are further videos from as far as Japan from food blogs on his travels.

He said there are parts of the district he hasn’t yet visited but is open to recommendations from viewers.

“People will say, ‘Do you know this place in Kettlethorpe or this place in Agbrigg?’. I haven't even been to Horbury and Ossett yet but I'll work my way around to them.

“Somewhere there will be a little fish and chip shop in Wakefield waiting for customers - I want to review that place. There is enough business for everyone."

He picked out a handful of cafe and restaurant recommendations from across the district.

In no particular order, Wakefield Trinity's new restaurant The Clubhouse, Hidden in Middlestown, Tiger Thai in Castleford, California Cafe in Normanton, The Old Coffee Mill in Castleford, Ponte Mamma Mia’s, and The Box at the Fox in Newmillerdam.
