Popular Otley fish and chip shop to close this week after owners' emotional farewell
A well-loved fish and chip shop in Otley will close this week, as the owners bid an emotional farewell to loyal customers
A popular fish and chip shop in Otley is closing at the end of the week after being put up for sale earlier this year.
In an emotional post on social media, Gay Lane Fisheries owners Andrew and Anna announced that the chippy would cease trading on Saturday, July 25.

They wrote: “We never thought we would be writing this post…
“But this is it. This is our final week.
“After years of serving the amazing people of Otley and the surrounding areas, Gay Lane Fisheries will close its doors for the final time on Saturday, 25th July 2026.
“This little shop has been so much more than just a fish and chip shop to us. It has been a huge part of our lives. We have met so many wonderful people, shared countless conversations, laughs and memories, and been incredibly lucky to have such amazing customers.
“To everyone who has ever ordered from us, recommended us, left us a review, shared one of our posts, had a chat with us, or simply supported our little family business - THANK YOU. Truly.”
The shop on Gay Lane was listed for sale in March this year with an asking price of £49,950.
The listing said: “Worked with a basic menu and sensible hours with just lunch time and early evening openings (no late evenings). There is scope to extend opening hours later into the evenings, as our clients opening hours are currently limited.
“There is also the option to expand the current menu and a delivery service to increase sales and maximize profits. Especially for a young enthusiastic proprietor to come along and exploit the full potential of this excellent business.”
