Beloved Leeds restaurant Salvo's in Headingley closes suddenly over 'unexpected dispute' with landlord
A much-loved Leeds restaurant that has served generations of families for 50 years has been forced to close.
Salvo’s on Otley Road in Headingley Road has announced today (Thursday) that as a result of an “unexpected dispute” with their landlord the restaurant has been unable to open.
The family-run restaurant, which was opened in 1976 by Salvatore Dammone, announced the “devastating news” to their “dearest customers, friends and supporters”.
They said that the landlord had prevented their access to the building, adding: “This means we are, with immediate effect, unable to honour any existing bookings, provide table service, or welcome you for the dining experience we love to create.

“We want to be unequivocally clear: We have always met our obligations, including rent and all bills.
“Our dedicated team has worked tirelessly, not just to serve exceptional food, but to build a community within our walls. Through the immense challenges of the hospitality economy, we fought to stay afloat, committed to our staff, our suppliers, and most of all, to you.”
The business said it hoped to “resolve this matter as quickly as possible” and remains “committed to our dream and to serving you again”.
Customers were asked not to book or visit the premises until further notice and those with existing reservations are informed that these have been cancelled.
The statement read: “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your incredible support, your laughter that filled our dining room, and your loyalty. It has been our greatest honour to serve you.
“We will update you here as soon as we have more information.”
The running of Salvo’s was passed on to Salvatore’s sons Gip and John, who both received MBE’s for their services to hospitality in 2024 after retiring. Following their retirement, business was sold and came under new ownership in 2023.
