The best places for a romantic meal in and around Leeds - according to Danny Malin

In his latest column, Danny Malin shares the romantic spots he loves to take his wife 🌹

When going for a meal out there’s almost too many options to choose from in West Yorkshire.

As it’s our wedding anniversary this week, I’ve been exploring some places to take the wife when I am back home from working. Fortunately, our choice is reduced as she's a vegetarian who likes spicy food - and I like my meat.

One place I’ve promised I’ll take my wife Sophie is The Station House Cafe and Bistro in Garforth. It serves amazing home-made Italian food in a cosy setting.

They have a great menu of pizza, pasta and steaks as well as plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. I’d also get brownie points taking her here because she loves trains and the bistro is within Garforth station.

We don’t get out for Italian food often, but we love a breakfast date at Capri in Wakefield or brunch at Strada Cafe for amazing drinks, as well as food. When it comes to an evening meal, we’ve had some delicious food at Salute at The White Swan in Oulton. We went here shortly before our wedding, as we spent our wedding night at Oulton Hall Hotel.

We actually had our wedding breakfast at The Sheepscar Bar & Grill - an Indian pub that serves amazing mixed grills, Indian bites and veggie options.

My absolutely favourite Indian restaurant in Leeds is Dastaan in Adel. Their blue cheese naan and curries are to die for. It’s a nice informal restaurant perfect for a date.

For something a bit more formal and fine-dining style, we had a delicious, albeit vegetarian meal, at Prashad in Drighlington. For a takeaway, if we’re having a date night in then Abdul’s in Wakefield still hits the spot.

For South East Asian food for a treat, we love Tattu in Leeds, Blue Sakura and Ivy Asia.

Tattu was actually where I took Sophie for our first date and it was stunning small plates of Chinese food with a modern twist. We also had a Chinese tea ceremony after our wedding, and dim sum at Joy’s Kitchen which is near Leeds Kirkgate Market. We were also treated to a gift of a meal at Ivy Asia, which is perfect for special occasions and their seasonal menu.

For a special lunch date in the city centre, we both love Habbibi in Victoria Leeds. It’s on the rooftop so you really feel like you could be anywhere in the world. It’s a real oasis.
