The top Leeds chippies celebrated in national fish and chip awards - and those that missed out
They’ve done us proud ⭐
Some of Leeds' best-loved fish and chip shops have been recognised in new national awards - with two local businesses picking up highly commended honours.
The winners of the first English Fish & Chip Awards have been announced, celebrating the best of the industry across the country.
The awards were judged by the YEP’s very own columnist Danny Malin, along with TV chef Aldo Zilli and The Chippy Tour.

In Leeds, Marlows British Kitchen in Street Lane, Moorton, received two highly recommended accolades. The restaurant was recognised in the Best Fish & Chip Shop in Yorkshire and the Humber category and also earned a highly recommended award for Best Menu.
Meanwhile, The Bearded Sailor in Pudsey was named Highly Recommended in the Best Newcomer category.
Several other Leeds favourites were shortlisted across a range of categories - but missed out on the night.
The Skyliner in Austhorpe was shortlisted in three categories: Best Dine-In Fish and Chips, Best Menu and Most Historic Fish and Chip Shop.
Elsewhere, Bramley Fisheries, Graveleys Fish and Chips, Kirbys of Horsforth and St Michael's Fisheries were all finalists in the Best Fish & Chip Shop in Yorkshire and the Humber category alongside Marlows British Kitchen.
In the Best Fish and Chips in Yorkshire and the Humber category, Graveleys Fish and Chips, Kirbys of Meanwood, Portside Fish & Chips and The Bearded Sailor were all recognised as finalists.
While Leeds chippies missed out on the top honours, The Fat Fryer, near Selby, took home the award for Best Newcomer, while Wakefield chippy The Codfather was crowned the Best Fish and Chips in Yorkshire and Humber.
The Codfather’s owner, Ilham Shamchiyev, said he and the whole team are ‘absolutely delighted and incredibly proud’ to have won.
"Winning this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, and we’re extremely grateful to our loyal customers for their continued support,” he added.
"Representing Wakefield on the national stage is a real honour, and we’ll continue striving to make our community proud.”
