Two Leeds restaurants named in British Indian Good Food Guide 2025

Two Leeds restaurants have found their way into an independent guide celebrating excellence in Indian dining.

Prashad in Drighlington and Tharavadu in Leeds city centre are the Yorkshire representatives in The British Indian Good Food Guide.

Prashad on Whitehall Road describes itself as a stylish, colourful and intimate restaurant offering South Indian and Gujarati vegetarian cuisine.

And Tharavadu on Mill Hill in the city centre claims to be the favourite restaurant in Leeds of Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma.

The Guide has announced its 2025 national selection, recognising 100 outstanding Indian restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales that define excellence in British-Indian dining.

This year, Raval Indian Brasserie & Bar in Newcastle–Gateshead is named the Guide’s highest honour - National Champion 2025 - placing the North East at the forefront of modern Indian gastronomy.

Positioned beside the Tyne Bridge, moments from the Glasshouse International Music Centre and Hilton, Raval impressed with refined technique, a tasting-led menu, and warm, down-to-earth hospitality - a dining experience that feels elevated yet welcoming and unpretentious.

Indian restaurants contribute billions to the UK economy, with more than 10,000 venues nationwide serving a cuisine enjoyed by nearly 90 per cent of Britons each year.

Whether fine-dining destinations, cherished curry houses or modern street-food specialists, Indian cuisine remains a defining part of the UK’s cultural identity.

Guide editors said: “Indian cuisine is woven into British life. Excellence belongs in every region, not just the capital.”
