'UK's favourite independent cafe' Federal confirms opening date for new brunch hotspot in Leeds
The opening date has been confirmed for a new brunch hotspot in Leeds - ranked the most popular independent café in the UK.
Federal, which is renowned in Manchester for its Australian-inspired breakfasts and all-day brunches, will open its first site in Yorkshire on Monday December 15.
Located in the recently refurbished 34 Boar Lane, opposite Trinity Leeds, the new café will serve an all-day brunch menu featuring signature dishes such as French toast, steak and eggs, halloumi and shrooms, plus a rotating line-up of specials.
Drinks will include expertly-crafted coffee and teas, fresh juices, wine, beer and cocktails - including the exclusive Leeds Latte Martini, which pays homage to the city’s vibrant cocktail scene.
Established in Manchester in 2014, Federal is inspired by Kiwi and Aussie neighbourhood cafés and has built a reputation for exceptional coffee, standout brunch dishes and warm, welcoming service. The brand has become famed on social media for its canned iced matcha range, and has amassed more than 1.1million views on TikTok.
Founded by Claudio Ribeiro, Federal has grown over the last decade to four outlets across Manchester in the Northern Quarter, Deansgate, Oxford Road and Altrincham. In a recent study by bookmakers Betway, which measured the popularity of over 300 coffee shops worldwide, Federal was named the UK’s most popular independent café.
The Leeds site will be the brand’s first across the Pennines.
Speaking ahead of the Leeds launch, Claudio said: “We’re incredibly excited to officially announce December 15 as our opening date. There’s a real buzz around Federal coming to Leeds, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in.

To celebrate its arrival in the city, Federal will give away 1,000 free coffees from 8am on December 20 and 21. The first customers can also expect prize giveaways, plus limited-edition Leeds merchandise created for the opening week.
