11 breathtaking pictures as cherry blossoms bloom and Leeds bursts into pink and white

The long-awaited arrival of spring has officially reached Leeds, as the city’s cherry blossom trees burst into bloom this weekend.

From the quiet corners of Park Square to the historic grounds of Kirkstall Abbey, the fleeting ‘Sakura’ season has turned urban streets into floral tunnels, providing a much-needed splash of colour after a long winter.

Saturday’s bright spells saw photographers and locals alike heading to hotspots such as Golden Acre Park and the University of Leeds campus to capture the delicate petals.

While the blossoms are notoriously short-lived (often lasting only a week or two), this weekend’s display showed the city at its most picturesque, with snowfalls of pink petals already starting to carpet the pavements.

Whether it’s the iconic rows of trees in Potternewton Park or the hidden gems tucked away near Leeds Minster, the blossom trail is a reminder of the city's hidden green beauty.

If you haven't made it out yet, let our gallery of Saturday's best blooms take you on a virtual tour of Leeds in its springtime finest.
