Dilapidated 'eyesore' land in Leeds goes up for auction after laundrette plans rejected

The guide price for the piece of land is £12,000

An unkept piece of land in Leeds has now gone up for auction, eight months after a planning application for the site was refused.

The land at 1a Back Newton Grove, Chapeltown, is now open for bidding with a guide price of £12,000.

Auction House said the area presents an “excellent opportunity for buyers.”

Mr Khodadad Ghasemi applied to Leeds City Council for permission to turn the land into a two-storey laundrette in December, but his application and appeal were both rejected.

One resident who objected to the claims hopes the auction will help improve the condition of the site.

The resident said: "It's been vacant for years and has become an eyesore. It attracts littering and fly-tipping.

"I really hope a use can be found for the site that improves the environmental issues we have on this street."

The site, located within the Chapeltown Conservation Area, has had several previous planning applications over the last few years.

Proposals to turn the land into a dwelling and a retail unit with a one bedroom flat, were both refused in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Meanwhile, an application to create a two-storey creche was approved, however the building was never completed before permission lapsed.
