Fancy a pint at a trendy bar, or a bite to eat at a new, independent restaurant that is taking food to new heights? Then Leeds has a suburb for you.
From popular markets in Chapel Allerton and Morley to trendy bars and restaurants in Oakwood and Meanwood, our city has more than enough unique neighbourhoods for professionals, students and families alike.
Join us as we explore what in our opinion are the 11 coolest areas in Leeds to live in right now:

7. Oakwood
This leafy Leeds suburb is getting cooler by the day, with a plethora of indie businesses having opened up here over the last few years such as The Cheesy Living Co., Punjabi Heaven and Bab Tooma. There are plenty of options when it comes to cool bars as well, including Preston and SALT. | Jonathan Gawthorpe Photo: Jonathan Gawthorpe

8. Leeds Dock
The original hub of apartment living in Leeds, Leeds Dock (formerly New Dock and Clarence Dock) was transformed in the 2000s. It is home to what could be Leeds' coolest business - Hold Fast, a floating bookshop. The Canary opened in 2022 is a popular bar in the neighbourhood built from former shipping containers. | Bruce Rollinson Photo: Bruce Rollinson

9. Holbeck Urban Village
What was once full of industrial buildings in an urban wasteland is now the home to lots of cool developments, including the Ironworks. Holbeck Urban Village is also the home of the Northern Monk Refectory and pubs like Out of the Wood and the Cross Keys. | Simon Dewhurst Photo: Simon Dewhurst

10. Hyde Park
As one of Leeds' student heartlands, it's not surprising that Hyde Park is home to a number of trendy businesses such as the Hyde Park Corner and petrol station-turned-bar and café Hyde Park Book Club (pictured). Recently reopened Hyde Park Picture House is believed to be the only remaining gaslit cinema in the world. | Steve Riding/national world Photo: Steve Riding

11. Bramley
This up-and-coming area is home to a number of independent businesses that are changing the game, such as Silver's Deli and the bar Against The Grain, which is set for expansion. The area also has plenty of affordable homes. | James Hardisty Photo: James Hardisty
