New research from Amazon reveals that three-quarters (76%) of Brits say Christmas lights instantly lift their spirits. This year, reality TV favourite Joey Essex is proving that creating a dazzling festive display can be as simple as saying, "Alexa, turn on the Christmas lights."

In a hilarious new film that channels the chaos of classic Christmas comedy moments, Joey teams up with his beloved nan Linda Sims to transform his Essex home into a winter wonderland.
The video follows Joey as he takes Linda outside for the big reveal of his epic lights display – only to discover the plug switch doesn't work. Just as disaster strikes, Joey remembers his home is smart, thanks to Alexa and with one simple voice command, his house lights up with over 100,000 twinkling bulbs.
The film showcases how easy it is for anyone to control their Christmas lights using Alexa and smart plugs, with Joey's Blink Video Doorbell even getting in on the festive action.
Alexa users can also create their own custom commands, choosing exactly how they'd like to switch on their decorations – whether that's "Alexa, light up Christmas" or "Alexa, let it glow."

Amazon's research highlights just how powerful festive lights are for lifting the nation's mood. Three-quarters (76%) of Brits say that Christmas decorations instantly lift their spirits, with one in five admitting they put up lights specifically to impress their neighbours.
Still, decking the halls doesn’t come easily for everyone, with many saying that smart home technology like Alexa and smart plugs (44%) would make them more likely to embrace the festive season.
