Zoopla has crunched the numbers to show how much floor space £200 will buy you in different areas across the region.
To make it easier for househunters to visualise how far their money will go, the firm has calculated how many sheets of A4 paper that space equates to.
One sheet of A4 paper is 1/16th of a square metre, but for many people it is easier to picture an everyday object like an A4 sheet of paper than to imagine a square metre.
Zoopla’s findings show that in the London borough of Westminster, £200 buys you less than a quarter of an A4 sheet’s worth of space.
But in some parts of the country, including Hull in Yorkshire, it will get you more than two sheets’ worth.
As well as Hull, where £200 buys you 2.2 A4 sheets’ worth of floorspace in the average house, the other cheapest places to buy a home per square metre are Doncaster (1.9 sheets), Barnsley (1.8), Bradford (1.7) and Rotherham (also 1.7).

13. Harrogate
Harrogate is the second most expensive place to buy a house in Yorkshire, based on the average price per square metre. For £200, you get floorspace equivalent to 1.0 sheets of A4 paper. In 2015, the same amount of money would have bought you 1.5 sheets' worth of space. | Yorkshire Post Photo: Gerard Binks

14. York - 0.95 sheets
York is the most expensive place to buy a house in Yorkshire, based on the average price per square metre. For £200, you get floorspace equivalent to 0.95 sheets of A4 paper. In 2015, the same amount of money would have bought you 1.4 sheets' worth of space. | Yorkshire Post Photo: James Hardisty
