Fans call Jane McDonald's Mighty Hoopla performance 'the best act of the weekend'
Tens of thousands of fans watched Jane McDonald perform in Mighty Hoopla’s ‘Gay Icon’ slot over the weekend.
The two-day pop celebration took place in Brockwell Park, in London, on Saturday (May 30) and Sunday (May 31), with Wakefield’s own Jane McDonald performing in their famous ‘Gay Icon’ slot.
Arriving on stage in a cruise ship cutout, Jane screamed "Hoopla!" to thousands of fans before singing her first song – a cover of ‘Queen of the Night’ by Whitney Houston.
The set also featured her number one hit single, ‘You’re My World’, a Cher medley and fan-favourite cover ‘Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)’.

Jane’s best friend Sue Ravey also made a special appearance during her cover of RAYE’s ‘Where Is My Husband’.
Posting to social media after the performance, Jane said: “Mighty Hoopla, that was one of the best days of my life. I can’t possibly describe how welcome you made me feel at my first ever festival performance!
“I’ll cherish this for the rest of my life.”
Fans have since shared their love for the star, and her performance, with one stating: “Best act of the whole weekend!”

Another said: “Best show I’ve watched in all the years I’ve been going to Mighty Hoopla!”
Celebrities also congratulated Jane on the performance with Strictly star Oti Mabuse posting: “Absolute icon”, whilst Loose Women panelist, Denise Welch, commented: “Brilliant omg!”
Alongside her first festival appearance, 2026 has already been an impressive year for the Wakefield legend.
Her brand new country-inspired album ‘Living The Dream’ dropped in March and hit Number 1 on the Official Independent Albums Chart.

Jane will also embark on a 19-date national tour in summer – which will end at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on September 26.
Speaking on her impressive career earlier this year, Jane said: “It's taken a long time, but perseverance and the Wakefield support has been incredible, and I'm so grateful and so proud of everyone here.”
