Could you give a dog a second chance? Dogs Trust Leeds appeals for foster carers
Dog lovers are being urged to open up their hearts and homes as Dogs Trust Leeds appeals for more foster carers.
The York Road based charity is looking for foster carers who can take on larger breeds or those with specific requirements.
They would help to provide a temporary loving home for pooches until their are matched with their forever families.
Ideally, carers will be around most of the time to help support the settling-in process. The home should have no children, or visiting children aged under 10, and a secure, private garden is essential.
The news comes as, nationwide, the charity continues to receive over 800 enquiries a week from people facing the heart-breaking decision to rehome their dogs.
Dogs Trust also shares its training expertise with foster carers, helping them to build confidence and gain a deeper understanding of dogs and their behaviour. All costs are covered by Dogs Trust, including food, bedding, grooming and vet treatment.
Helena Parmee, fostering co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Leeds, said: "With so many dogs needing our help right now, foster carers are absolutely vital. By offering a calm and peaceful temporary home, you’re giving a dog safety, comfort and love at a time when they need it most.
“Not only this, but having our dogs in foster homes frees up space for other dogs who are waiting to come through our doors.
“We’re currently on the lookout for foster carers who would be interested in looking after larger breeds of dogs, or could support dogs with specific needs, such as noise sensitive dogs who need a quiet environment, dogs who are worried by strangers, or dogs who haven’t had much training.
“Fostering is such a rewarding experience, and a way to make a real difference without a long-term commitment."
