Rory set to spend first Christmas in foster care after 500 days at Dogs Trust Leeds

After more than 500 days in kennels, Rory the Lurcher is finally getting the chance to spend Christmas surrounded by home comforts.

He didn’t get off to the best start in life after the four-year-old was found as a stray in early 2024.

But now thanks to kind-hearted foster carers Sue and Steven he is set to spend Christmas in his happy place while he waits for his forever home.

And they are just two of the thousands of foster carers who support the Dogs Trust to care for over 11,000 dogs nationwide each year.

At the start of his journey with Dogs Trust Leeds, Rory was very anxious and unsure of the world, feeling nervous about being left alone and struggling to settle in new environments.

But thanks to the excellent work of the team and their network of foster carers, Rory has started to rediscover the things he loves, gentle walks, soft blankets and time with people who care about him.

Rory’s foster carer, Sue, said: “Rory is just such a good dog. He loves a good snuggle, has made great progress making four-legged friends and can’t wait to go on his long walks.

“Rory fits in really well at home, he has adjusted so well to foster care and will be the perfect companion for the right family.

“We’re really pleased to be able to offer Rory some home comforts over the Christmas period, and hope that he gets the number one gift on his Christmas list – his forever home.”

Now, as this playful and affectionate Lurcher settles in with his foster carers for Christmas, the Dogs Trust team is hoping the next chapter in Rory’s story will be finding a loving forever home to call his own.

Kelly Walker, manager at Dogs Trust Leeds, said: “Rory has come such a long way since arriving with us, and foster care has helped this loveable Lurcher learn what life in a home is all about.

“He has shown how affectionate and well-behaved he can be, loving nothing more than curling up on the sofa with his loved ones.

“We hope that after enjoying Christmas in his happy place, he’ll soon find the forever home he deserves.”
