Leeds rescue dog George celebrates seven months in forever home thanks to charity support
Gorgeous George, a Rottweiler Mastiff crossbreed, is celebrating seven months in his “forever home” after finding a new family through Dogs Trust Leeds.
The young dog’s journey began with anxious behaviours after his original owner could no longer care for him. Since then, he has been transformed thanks to the dedicated team at the charity.
Arriving at the kennels at just eight months old, George initially adapted well to his new life. However, when he began to show signs of anxiety, the team quickly stepped in to help build his confidence.

George’s adopter, Harriet, recalled that bringing him home in September 2025 was not without its challenges.
“When we got George home, he wasn’t house-trained, but he settled in straight away, sleeping through the night,” Harriet said. “He was a bit of a handful at the start, spooked by every noise, but with consistent training at home and support, he began to calm down.”
“He is affectionate, keen to learn, and very much part of our family. We knew we could give him the home he needed to feel safe, settle in at his own pace, and thrive, so it has all worked out perfectly.”
Kelly Walker, Manager at Dogs Trust Leeds, explained that a significant portion of their support comes from Postcode Lottery players. These players have contributed over £30 million to the charity, enabling Dogs Trust to care for more than 125,000 dogs since funding began in 2014.

Funding over the last 12 years has not only supported rehoming but has also helped fund Dogs Trust’s teams, including training, behaviour and welfare specialists, as well as fostering and volunteer coordinators.
Walker added that George’s successful rehoming is proof of the hard work the charity’s staff put in.
She said: “Seeing dogs like George get the happy rehoming they deserve is a testament to the wonderful care, training and time taken to help the dogs in our care feel comfortable in a new environment.”
