Silver's Deli Bramley: I visited the award-winning Leeds sandwich shop loved by Marco Pierre White

Review of Silver’s Deli, an hugely popular Leeds sandwich shop based in Bramley

A sandwich shop in Bramley has taken Leeds by storm. Correction - it has taken the food scene by storm.

Silver’s Deli opened in 2023 as your friendly neighbourhood sandwich shop but has ascended way beyond its original intention.

It is no longer just serving sandwiches to the West Leeds locals, it is attracting people from across the city and beyond with their word-of-mouth sensation sarnies.

“When the Michelin talk three stars, they say exceptional cuisine worthy of the journey,” said world-renowned chef Marco Pierre White. “Let me tell you something, I’ve travelled 300 miles to Silver's in Leeds – exceptional cuisine, an exceptional sandwich, worthy of the journey.

“And can I say, there’s only one problem; it’s too cheap. So don’t complain. Just pay the bill!”

I spend far too much time on Instagram and to be honest, it feels like every third post I see is about Silver’s. For some reason, I had not yet got around to sampling the sandwiches seemingly everyone is talking about. One Sunday, as I nursed a mild hangover, I decided it had to change. Marco had inspired me to check out the 2025 Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year.

I opted for the O’Hagan 2.0, consisting of garlic and herb chicken, crispy prosciutto, rocket, tomato, crumb and peperonata spread.

It was a blissful blend of crispiness and softness, as the prosciutto and the crumbs cut through the spread beautifully.

Naturally, I did not limit myself to just one sandwich on the menu. You wouldn’t walk into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and walk out with a fun-sized bar tucked in your pocket, so I also went for the Hot Honey Chicken.

This one, like the O’Hagan 2.0, was packed to the rafters with crumbs and I loved it. I have since decided I would like all sandwiches to have crumbs stuffed in them. The spice was subtle but undeniably present, balancing nicely with the iceberg lettuce and tomato.

My only issue with it was that the honey had slid completely to one end of the sandwich, which I assume happened during the journey from Silver’s to my door, so I won’t be holding it against them.

I had hoped to wash the sandwiches down with a can of San Pellegrino and supplement them with a bag of crisps, but both were missing from the Uber Eats order. Not to worry though - I was refunded quickly and was happy to settle for Hula Hoops from the cupboard.

Truthfully, I was unsure what to expect trying Silver’s for the first time. When an establishment gets such rave reviews, and becomes so trendy, I cannot help but be a bit pessimistic.

However, those lovely, lovely crumbs were all that was needed to was away any pessimism. I could try to be edgy and try kill some of the hype but Silver’s are quite simply whipping up stellar sandwiches.

They supposedly make some killer cookies too - and I’ll be back to try them soon.
