Leeds cyclist fined £1,200 after complaining about driver's close pass
A cyclist’s own bodycam footage has landed them with a £1,200 bill in fines and court costs
A cyclist who submitted bodycam footage of a close pass has been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds after the same footage revealed his own poor cycling.
West Yorkshire Police said the footage was uploaded to their Operation Snap portal.
They claimed the video uploaded showed a car passing too close to his bike - but the submission then went on to show he was “riding without due care and attention” as he approached a parked car and oncoming vehicle.
Police said the footage was captured in Menston, Leeds.
West Yorkshire Police said the “driver was forced to hug the kerb to reduce the risk of contact”.
The force confirmed the rider was dealt with by magistrates in Bradford last week.
The cyclist was ordered to pay £1,200 in fines and court costs.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said on social media: “It is important that all road users are aware of The Highway Code, are considerate to other road users and understand their responsibility for the safety of others.”
