'Besotted' Wakefield thug who growled at ex in the street is jailed

He had been ordered to stay away from her by a court order

A thug who is “besotted” with his ex partner was returned to jail after he turned up near her home and stared and growled at her.

Jozsef Bora had only been released from prison for a previous breach of the restraining order designed to keep him away from her, when she saw him on the street.

The 57-year-old appeared at Leeds Crown Court this week where he admitted a new breach of the restraining order.

The defiant thug, who appeared in court over a video link from HMP Leeds, spent the sentencing hearing shaking his head.

His belligerent behaviour did not go unnoticed by Judge Ray Singh, who told him: “Your temperament is of an individual who is besotted by the complainant and you simply will not leave her alone.

“There’s an unhealthy fixation on your part. Your previous convictions demonstrate your fixation.

“Despite the fact you went to prison on previous occasions, you are simply not going to learn.

“If you breach the restraining order, you know it will be prison.”

He described the staring and growling at the victim as “sinister”.

Prosecutor Thomas Harris said Bora and the woman had been in a relationship for 12 years, but ended five years ago due to his violent behaviour.

The restraining order was put in place to keep him away after he attacked the woman, for which he was jailed for 34 months in November 2023.

In 2024 he was given a 12-month extension after he continued to write letters to the woman from prison.

On the afternoon of September 29 last year, she had been shopping in Hemsworth when she spotted Bora who was staring at her and appeared to be growling.

The woman later said she had seen him in Tesco the week before when he also stared and growled at her, although he was not charged over this alleged incident.

She told police that she felt he was purposely there to see her.

Bora, of no fixed address, was arrested and denied being in Hemsworth, saying he had no reason to be there. He later admitted the breach.

He has 15 previous convictions for 22 offences including the attack on his ex partner. He is also a convicted sex offender, having sexually assaulted a child under 13.

For his latest breach, no mitigation was offered after Judge Ray Singh said he would pass a sentence that would mean he would either be freed immediately, or soon, given that he had already spent eight months on remand.

He jailed him for 18 months and told Bora that his restraining order will remain in place.
