Burglars took goods worth £1,900 from home as residents slept

They were caught on CCTV

Burglars crept into a home and snatched almost £2,000 worth of goods before being disturbed by the sleeping occupiers.

Dominik Thompson was part of the two-man team that targeted the home in the Belle Vue area of Wakefield.

The 34-year-old admitted the break in, but was handed a suspended sentence at Leeds Crown Court this week.

They broke into the property at around 6.30am on April 9. It was only when the residents heard the banging did they flee.

By that time, they had taken a laptop, cash, a Playstation, an air fryer and a carpet cleaner.

CCTV caught Thompson entering the property.

He appeared in court over a video link from HMP Leeds this week, where he was being held on remand.

Thompson, of Oxford Street, Wakefield, admitted one count of dwelling burglary.

Mitigating, Tayo Dasaolu said he suffered from mental-health problems and had come to rely on alcohol and drugs, including cocaine.

She added that the dad-of-one was “capable of staying out of trouble”.

The judge, Recorder Helen Chapman, gave him an 18-month sentence, suspended for 24 months, saying he would not get the help required if he were to remain in jail.

She ordered he complete a nine-month drug-rehabilitation requirement, and 25 days with probation.
