Burley in Wharfedale: Family 'heartbroken' as man fatally stabbed in village named as Mason Jones
A man is set to appear in court charged with murder over a death in a West Yorkshire village.
Mason Jones has been named as the victim and his family has paid tribute to him. The 30-year-old was the victim of a serious assault in Burley in Wharfedale on Sunday (March 1) night and later died of his injuries.
John Robson, also 30, from Derry Hill, Menston, has been charged with his murder. He has been remanded to appear before magistrates in Bradford later today (March 4).

Paying tribute to Mason, his family has released a statement. It reads: “To have our boy taken from us in such a heartbreaking way is something no family or partner should ever have to face.
“He has been taken from us far too soon, and from his beautiful children. Mason’s infectious smile and joyful spirit will live on in our hearts and in the precious memories we hold on to.
“His partner, family and friends are still trying to come to terms with this unimaginable loss. We simply ask that justice is done for our boy.”
A 23-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed pending further enquiries.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the parish council said: “Burley in Wharfedale Parish Council is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, 1 March. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the victim’s family and all those affected by this devastating event.
“We recognise that this incident will understandably cause concern within our community. The Parish Council wishes to reassure residents that West Yorkshire Police have deployed all necessary resources and continue to conduct extensive enquiries in the area. We are grateful for their swift and professional response.
“We are also proud that Burley residents – including some who were taking part in a community litter pick – responded quickly and provided help until the emergency services arrived. Their actions exemplify the strength and compassion of our community at a time of great distress.”
Local residents have told the YEP of their shock at the murder. One neighbour said: “A big shock. I was inside.
“We’ve frosted the windows for the dog, so I didn’t see it. When I came out, the incident had already happened.
“It’s a shock for this area. I understand that it didn’t originate from here, but it’s still a big shock for this area because it’s such a lovely place.”
Tom Clegg, another village resident, was shocked to find his street cordoned off on Sunday evening.
He told the YEP: “I had to be escorted to the house, and police had to check I was an actual resident. It’s unusual, especially when it’s right outside your house. It’s shocking.”
