Cash machine stolen as Leeds service station targeted in early morning ram raid

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a theft involving cash machines at Wetherby Services in the early hours of this morning (July 29).

The incident took place at Moto Wetherby Services, at junction 46 of the A1, at approximately 2.00 am.

A black vehicle, believed to be an older-model Nissan Juke, was driven into the services through doors near the M&S Food store before it was then used to repeatedly ram a standalone ATM.

Four men wearing face coverings and gloves were involved in the incident.

Two of the suspects attached what is believed to have been a chain to an “&PLAY” cash payout machine, which was pulled free using the Nissan Juke before the machine was loaded into the rear of the vehicle.

Police have now confirmed that a Nissan Juke has since been recovered in the Leeds area.

The vehicle had been set on fire and the stolen cash machine was found inside.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the Nissan Juke travelling between Wetherby and Leeds between 1am and 5am, or has any information that could assist the investigation.

In particular, detectives would like to identify and speak to three men who may have witnessed the incident and could hold information relevant to enquiries.

They urge these men to come forward as soon as possible.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police said: “We would like to emphasise that, at this stage, we believe these men are witnesses and do not believe they were involved in the offence.

“Their information could prove important in helping us establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Witnesses or anyone with information concerning the incident are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 or through their live chat.
