'Love is stronger than death': Family pay heartbreaking tribute as Leeds murder victim named

“We will not say ‘farewell,’ because we believe that love is stronger than death”

A woman who died in Leeds last week has been named publicly as Gozia Wiktor.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team launched a murder investigation last Thursday (June 11) after attending an address on Foster Square where 51-year-old Gozia was found seriously injured. She sadly died at the scene.

Officers were called at 10.25am on Thursday morning to a report concerning the welfare of a woman.

In a heartbreaking tribute, Gozia’s family said that they will not say farewell as “love is stronger than death.”

“It is so hard to find words when our hearts are filled with sorrow. It will be so difficult, and life will be so different, learning to live without you. We still cannot believe that we will no longer hear your laughter, see your smile,” they said.

“You left far too soon, leaving behind an emptiness that nothing can fill. As a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, you were the heart of our family, a source of warmth, love, and joy.

“We are not able to say goodbye. The pain felt by our entire family is beyond words. That is why we will not say ‘farewell,’ because we believe that love is stronger than death. Instead, we will simply say: ‘Stay close.’ Forever in our hearts and thoughts. Your loving family.”

A 52-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of Gozia’s murder, has now been released from hospital and is in police custody.

The investigation remains in its early stages, but West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that no other suspects are being sought in connection with the death.

Gozia’s family is being supported by specially trained officers.
