Five domestic abuse suspects charged after busy shift for Leeds officers

Five domestic abuse suspects have been charged and remanded in custody after a "particularly busy shift" for officers from the Leeds Domestic Abuse Team.
Last Saturday (January 24), officers secured charges against five men for offences that included breach of restraining order, assault by beating, and intentional strangulation.
Shining a spotlight on the team's work, Detective Inspector James Humphreys said that their tenacity and collaborative approach ensured officers have been able to build files that have led to charges, as well as ensuring the men were remanded in custody.
DI Humphreys added: “During this shift, a woman, was also given a caution with conditions to attend CARA workshops which are aimed at addressing behaviour through early intervention. A really important element of our work in DAT is breaking the cycle of abuse for both victims and perpetrators.
“Domestic abuse is a really complex area of policing as victims can be reticent to support investigations, potentially through fear, shame or because of the emotional connection they have to the perpetrator. Officers within DAT work really hard to support victims giving them the confidence to report all offences committed against them and to engage with the criminal justice process.
“We would encourage anyone who has been the victim of domestic abuse offences, or anyone with concerns for someone else, to please report it so that we can ensure victims are safeguarded and supported.”
