Pictures taken at the scene by a Yorkshire Evening Post photographer show that the terrace house has been boarded up. In the photos, the front window on the ground floor appears to have been burned out and damage to the door can also be seen.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called by the fire service to reports of a fire on Ecclesburn Road, Leeds at around 12:19am this morning (18 August).

“The incident is currently being treated as arson and enquires remain ongoing.”

In a post on its incident page, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue detailed: “Initial call to report a smoke alarm sounding in neighbouring property which had alerted the occupant to call the Fire Service. Subsequent calls followed reporting a house on fire.

“On arrival this proved to be a mid terrace 3 storey property which was 100% involved in fire. The property was 5 metres x 10 metres with an exposure risk to 2 sides. There were no occupants in the property. Fire investigation officer also attended to determine the cause of fire.”
