Leeds United fan arrested over homophobic abuse at Brighton fixture
A Leeds United supporter has been arrested and another reported to police, over separate incidents of homophobic abuse at Brighton and Hove Albion in November.
Sussex Police have confirmed that a 46-year-old man from Wakefield was arrested on suspicion of using threatening or abusive behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We work in close partnership with Brighton and Hove Albion FC to respond to reports of homophobic behaviour at The American Express Stadium in Brighton.
"The impact of the use of this abusive language means that other football supporters often do not feel safe to attend matches. It can also have an impact on staff and officers who are working to ensure everyone can attend the match and get home safely.

"Attitudes are changing and by challenging unacceptable behaviour we hope to show that abuse has no place in our stadiums or in the game of football itself. Reports of homophobic abuse, racist abuse, and public order offences will be tackled and Sussex Police will seek prosecutions where reports are made to us.
"A 46-year-old man from Wakefield was arrested on suspicion of using threatening or abusive behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress. He remains under investigation at this time."
The Yorkshire Evening Post also understands that the behaviour of a second Leeds fan was reported to a West Yorkshire Police officer at The American Express Stadium during Leeds' visit earlier this season.
However, Sussex Police said it was not made aware of the incident, and no action has yet been taken.
A further statement from Sussex Police said: "We are not aware of a second report during this fixture, but this will be reviewed with our Dedicated Football Officer to ensure that any incidents reported are being recorded correctly.
"We would encourage anyone who is a victim of a hate crime to report it to us on the Sussex Police website here."
