Prolific shoplifter jailed and banned from Morley town centre for five years
He pleaded guilty to more than 20 theft from shop offences
A prolific shoplifter has been jailed and banned from a town centre in Leeds.
Dean Smith, of no fixed abode, was arrested on July 3 and charged and remanded in custody to appear at Bradford Magistrates’ Court the next day where he pleaded guilty to more than 20 theft from shop offences in Morley.
He was jailed for 50 weeks and made the subject of a five year made Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), following an application by the Leeds ASB Team.

This means that upon his release from prison the 44-year-old will be banned from entering Morley town centre.
Under the terms of the CBO, Smith must not:
- Enter the area boarded by and including the Bruntcliffe Lane, Victoria Road, Bank Street, Brunswick Street, Station Road, Albert Road, Clough Street, Middleton Road, High Street, Bridge Street, Britannia Road and Bruntcliffe Road. This is shown on the map highlighted in blue.
- Enter Any Boots, Farm Foods or B&M stores in Leeds Metropolitan district.
- Enter any retail premises from which he has previously been banned or excluded from in West Yorkshire.
- Remain in any retail premises when asked to leave in Leeds Metropolitan district.
The NPT will be keeping their eyes out as part of their regular patrols, and the public are being urged to support this by reporting if they witness any potential breaches of these conditions.
Any breaches are a criminal offence and could result in Dean Smith being returned to prison.
