Man beaten to death with an iron in ‘sustained attack’ in Shipley - as two people found guilty

“Rather than seeking help for a gravely injured man, the defendants left him to die.”

Two people have been found guilty of beating a man to death with an iron in a “sustained” attack in Shipley.

Zbigniew Chlebek, aged 66, of Stead Street and Beata Walczak, aged 58, of no fixed abode were found guilty of the murder Jaroslav Daniszewski, 43, who was found deceased at a house in Stead Street on 22 April in 2025.

Officers were called that morning by Chlebek, who told them: “I don’t know what’s happened, all I know is that there is a man lying here.. and well he’s dead.”

On arrival Jaroslav was found dead on the living room floor having suffered significant injuries to his head and face.

An iron used to carry out the attack was recovered containing blood from Jaroslav and extensive damage from the scene. There was also damage and signs of a disturbance in the address.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Matt Holdsworth from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: "This investigation centred on a sustained assault in which Jaroslav was subjected to a prolonged assault with an iron and then left unconscious by those responsible. Rather than seeking help for a gravely injured man, the defendants left him to die.

"The evidence gathered by the investigation team demonstrated not only the severity of the attack but also the deliberate failure of the offenders to provide or summon assistance when it was clear the victim was in urgent need of medical attention.

"The conviction of those responsible is the result of meticulous investigative work by the Detectives in partnership forensic scientists involved and reflects our determination to secure justice for victims of serious violence.

"Our sincere condolences remain with the Jaroslav’s loved ones at this time and hope that the verdicts today provide some comfort."

They’ll both be sentenced tomorrow. (October 29).
