Sikh community of Leeds issues message of 'deep sorrow' after Henry Nowak murder in Southampton

‘At times of tragedy, it is important that communities stand together in unity, compassion, and mutual respect’

A message has been issued by the Sikh community in Leeds expressing their “deep sorrow and condolences” to the family of Henry Nowak after his murder in Southampton.

Mr Nowak was stabbed to death by a Sikh man, Vickrum Digwa, who then falsely told police that he defended himself from a racist and drunk attack.

Mr Nowak’s family have called for a full investigation into the officers’ actions at the scene and action on knife crime, but they have insisted they “do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension”.

A statement has been released and signed by various Sikh organisations in Leeds calling for “unity, compassion and mutual respect”.
