A man accused of murdering another on a Leeds street could face trial early next year.

He only spoke to confirm his name.

A provisional trial date has been set for January 12 and is expected to last around five days.

He was remanded back into custody and is expected to return to court on September 10 where he will be expected to enter a plea.

The charge follows an incident on Thursday, July 9 in which Mark Shaw was seriously assaulted and left with critical injuries in the Ramshead Crescent area.

The 43-year-old was taken to hospital for medical treatment but later died from his injuries.

Clarke had initially appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court charged with an offence of section 18 assault. That charge was amended to murder at the hearing.

Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
