'We need justice': Heartbreaking appeal after pregnant hedgehog died after being 'kicked like a football'
A charity is appealing for information after a group of boys attacked a pregnant hedgehog, which later died from its injuries.
Castleford Hedgehog Rescue said it was notified on Friday night that a hedgehog had been attacked by a group of boys in nearby Sharlston Common.
In a statement, the charity said: “The hedgehog was in need of urgent rescue.
"This poor 998g pregnant female hedgehog was a victim of cruel individuals.
"They kicked her around like a football and a girl saved her.
"Her mum went to her community group for help and it was found the damage they've done to her face and back was extremely distressing.”
The charity said the hedgehog died from her injuries on Saturday night and her unborn litter could not be saved.
Those with information or footage relating to the incident have been asked to contact the centre so it can be shared with police.
“We just want justice for her.”
