Major disruption on Leeds trains after person hit by train
Major disruption is causing delays on trains to and from Leeds
An ‘emergency incident’ is continuing to cause major disruption on train services to and from Leeds today.
Key lines between Leeds City Station and Wakefield Kirkgate, as well as between Huddersfield and Briggate, were closed earlier this morning (July 28). Despite re-opening, passengers are still facing delays of up to 60 minutes, National Rail has warned.
Our sister title, the Dewsbury Reporter has confirmed that a person has died after being hit by a train. A statement from British Transport Police said: “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
In an update on its website, it explains: “All lines have now reopened following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Huddersfield / Brighouse and Leeds / Wakefield Kirkgate.

“As service recovers, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Major disruption is expected until 11:30.”
National Rail adds: “The line from Dewsbury towards Halifax has now reopened and trains are able to run normally; however, services may still be subject to delays and cancellations whilst the service recovers.
“Northern services between Manchester Victoria and Leeds via Bradford Interchange are able to run normally.”
Rail passengers are advised to check before travelling this morning. You can use National Rail’s journey planner.
The warning continues: “Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey.”
