Police believe the driver of a black van could hold important information

Police have released a new image of a van they believe could hold vital information following a serious crash on the A1 last week.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are appealing for the driver and occupants of a black van, believed to be a Ford Transit, to come forward after it was seen entering the northbound A1 shortly before a serious collision.

The collision happened shortly before 2.20pm on Monday, September 21, on the northbound A1 at the junction with the B6474, between Wentbridge and Darrington.

A blue Volkswagen Polo was involved in a collision with a Scania HGV car transporter.

The driver of the Polo, a woman in her teens, suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Police have now released an image showing the black van, which is pictured on the left, entering the northbound A1 from the B6474 a few moments before the collision.

Officers believe the van's occupants may have witnessed what happened and could have important information to assist the investigation.

PC Rob Wadsworth, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "We believe this is a black Ford Transit van which has some distinctive black and possibly orange trim on its back doors and possibly on the rest of the body.

"I want to make it clear that the van's occupants are being treated as potential witnesses to this collision and may have vital information that could assist us in piecing together exactly what happened."

Anyone who can help identify the van, or who has information about the collision, is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police on 101 or use the force's Live Chat service online.
