Broken window at Leeds student accommodation prompted city centre road closure

‘A replacement window pane will be installed next week’

A broken window at one of Leeds’ tallest student accommodation blocks prompted the temporary closure of city centre roads on Monday (June 29).

iQ Student Accommodation said a resident at Altus House, in the Arena Quarter, alerted staff after discovering that the window in their en suite had broken.

A spokesperson said: “On Monday, a resident at Altus House alerted the site team that their en suite room window had broken. The team responded immediately, making the area safe, and relocating the student.

“A replacement window pane will be installed next week.”

The affected window was on the 28th floor of the building above Lovell Park Road. As a precaution, a section of the street just outside Altus House was closed while the incident was dealt with.

Dramatic footage captured by the Yorkshire Evening Post shows workers abseiling from the roof down to the broken window.

The accommodation provider said the incident was isolated and stressed there was no reason to believe it had been caused by the recent hot weather or by any structural issue.
