Led by Kathy Weir - widow of the late Scotland legend and MND campaigner Doddie Weir OBE - and a team of British and Irish Lions including Rob Wainwright and Gordon D’Arcy, the pack arrived in Leeds after setting off from Melrose this morning.
Headingley Stadium served as the official Day One finish line for the 750-mile epic, and as the heart of rugby in Leeds, is a key staging post on the route which connects the four nations of the Six Nations Triple Crown (Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland).
For the 12 core riders and hundreds of supporters, reaching Leeds marks the completion of the first of three consecutive 200-mile days.
The mission is simple: finishing what Doddie started. The event has already raised over £1m for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, funding vital research into a cure for Motor Neuron Disease.
The riders depart tomorrow morning for Gloucester, heading eventually for Dublin, where Kathy Weir and Gordon D’Arcy will deliver the match ball for the Ireland vs. Scotland Six Nations clash on Saturday.
