Leeds care homes open doors for World Cup watch parties to combat loneliness
‘Football has a unique way of bringing people together’ ❤️
A group of Leeds care homes are opening their doors for World Cup watch parties, in a bid to tackle loneliness.
Anchor care homes, including Oulton Manor, Beech Hall, Oak Tree Lodge, Larchfield, Halcyon Court and The Manor House Roundhay in Leeds, are inviting local people to come together to enjoy the football this summer.

Homes will open their doors for England’s first game against Croatia on Wednesday 17 June, welcoming older people – particularly those who may otherwise be watching alone – to join residents and colleagues for the match.
Anchor is running the initiative as part of its Year of Culture programme and Care Home Open Week, helping to reduce loneliness and create opportunities for social connection.
David Wood, community partnership manager for the North at Anchor, said: “Football has a unique way of bringing people together. Whether you’re a lifelong supporter or simply enjoy the atmosphere, major tournaments create opportunities to connect and share experiences.
“We’re really pleased to be opening our doors and inviting local people to join us. It’s a chance to enjoy the matches, meet new people and feel part of a welcoming community.
“Alongside the football, our homes will also be celebrating cultures from around the world through food, music and activities, helping to create a real sense of belonging for everyone involved.”
Local residents interested in attending a World Cup Social can contact their nearest home for more information.
