The digital advert asks the public not to "buy the lie" when it comes to free-range chicken farming.

The group are providing shoppers in the city centre with free mini vegan chicken burgers and are handing out material about switching to a vegan diet.

A six-foot prop chicken - named Lucy - is also joining them as the campaign mascot.

The Animal Justice Project says it has exposed "higher welfare, free range chicken farming and slaughter" and claims that "conditions are often no better than those on intensive farms".

The Leeds billboard is one of twenty two digital billboards being erected across major cities - including others in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield.

The Animal Justice Project is hoping to reach 1.45 million people altogether, with 303,451 of those in Leeds.
