‘Let people please themselves’: YEP readers verdict on early Christmas displays in Leeds shops
When is it too soon for Christmas?
The nights are starting to draw in and you may have even been tempted to turn on the heating once or twice already.
Leeds is just entering into autumn and soon the trees will be changing colours. But, lurking just around the corner is Christmas and the sleigh bells are going to be jingling before you know it.

However, with Halloween and Remembrance Sunday due to take place before the festive season begins, you might be torn when it is too soon for the Christmas displays to come out.
We turned to the YEP readers to get their thoughts in a post on Facebook. Here’s what they had to say.
Rose Robinson said: “Some of us have to spread the cost.”
Elizabeth Brooke added: “Because people who get paid monthly need time to get gifts and whatever else they want to buy.”
Lauren Priestley echoed: “How can you be prepared if they did ? I like to start early to know it’s not a last minute dash about.”
Christine Slater said: “Some people like to buy before the Christmas rush or crush, let people please themselves!”
Aileen Barrass wrote: “Depends, some people need to spread the cost. But Christmas lights and Christmas songs should only start in December.”
Coming from the other end of the spectrum, Simon Miller said: “There should be a law against the mention of Christmas until after Bonfire night.”
Jamie Richardson wrote: “Might as well have Xmas Easter valentine's Halloween stuff out all year round.”
Cathy Johnson added: “I think by saving it to December makes it really special.. the pretty lights, the excitement of get togethers and markets etc, even they start in November.. some earlier.. and also for the less well of families they aren't filled with dread so soon. But I know some don't agree and it's a free country.”
