Leeds family man 'over the moon' as new Lotto format delivers life-changing £1m win

A family man from Leeds has won £1 million by playing online on The National Lottery’s Lotto.

The special Guaranteed Millionaire Raffle draw, held on Saturday, July 4, meant that a unique Millionaire Raffle code was added to every Lotto ticket and 10 lucky ticket holders who had a matching code won £1m.

The lucky Leeds lad played his usual Lucky Dip line and thought he may have won close to £50k when he was asked to call up to claim his prize.

Wishing to remain anonymous, the fortunate family man is excited to make future plans with his newfound fortune.

He said: “I was over the moon thinking I had won £50k... I never imagined it would be £1m.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would win a prize of this size, but to win on the Lotto Millionaire Raffle is just unbelievable. This sets us up nicely for the future and gives of total peace of mind.”

Players can buy and check their tickets online by downloading the National Lottery app or at national-lottery.co.uk. They can also buy and check tickets in retail. Playing online via the app or website means that your ticket is automatically checked, and you get an email notification if you win a prize.

You can also scan your retail tickets on the National Lottery app to check if you're a winner.

Every £2 Lotto line now gives players two chances to win, all for the same price and with the same number of balls to choose from. The changes will create hundreds more millionaires each year (expected to go from around 140 a year to approximately 345) on the nation’s millionaire maker, with players’ chances of winning any prize improving from 1 in 9.3 to 1 in 4.9.

As well as making more millionaires and more prize winners, even more money is now raised for Good Causes across the UK.

Abbie Suddick, Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said: “Congratulations to our lucky Leeds Lotto winner on his big win. It must have been an amazing experience for him to make that call expecting £50k and walk away a millionaire.

“We are delighted that the new Lotto format is able to create so many millionaires, and hope that this winner and his family enjoy making plans and treating themselves with this newfound fortune.”

Playing any National Lottery game is more than just a chance to win; it's a way to contribute to something much bigger.

Each week, players help generate around £33m for National Lottery-funded projects. With over £53bn raised for Good Causes since launch, this funds hundreds of projects in every postcode area across the UK.

From supporting the arts and sport sectors, to empowering local community groups and preserving iconic British landmarks, players' participation makes a difference every single day.
