In pictures: Leeds pauses to honour the fallen on Armistice Day 2025

Leeds observed a solemn silence today (November 11), as the city paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in conflicts around the globe.

A commemorative service took place at Victoria Gardens this morning to mark Armistice Day, which signifies the end of the First World War on November 11, 1918.

Local leaders including Ed Anderson CBE, Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, and Alison Lowe OBE, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, joined former and current service personnel at the event to pay their respects.

The ceremony included the sounding of the Last Post, followed by a two-minute silence observed in honour of those who gave their lives in service.
