Leeds nursery children support community forest garden through outdoor learning
Children in Leeds are supporting a local community garden as part of their commitment to protecting the environment
Children at Kids Planet Headingley are taking a hands-on approach to outdoor learning through regular visits to Bedford Fields Community Forest Garden.
During their visits to the garden, the children are deepening their understanding of the natural world by observing local wildlife, discovering different plant species and enjoying outdoor story sessions throughout the summer.

Nursery manager Kim Harrison said: “We are proud to be supporting Bedford Fields Community Forest Garden and introducing the children to such a special place within the local community.
“Spending time in the forest garden is a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore the outdoors in a new setting, opening the door to valuable learning opportunities, new experiences and a stronger connection with nature.”
Situated opposite the nursery on Woodhouse Cliff, the charity-run community garden promotes biodiversity, sustainable food growing and environmental education. It is home to more than 100 plant species and a wide variety of wildlife.
The weekly visits are designed to help the children develop a greater understanding of sustainability and the importance of protecting the planet.
Kids Planet Headingley is also supporting the charity through fundraising activities, including a raffle on July 18 as part of the children’s Graduation Day celebrations.
Harrison added: “A huge thank you to the Bedford Fields team, who have been fantastic to work with. The children have loved every visit so far.
“We hope that, as the relationship develops, it will create even more opportunities for the children to learn from the Bedford Fields team, engage with nature and support the garden through volunteering activities.”
