'An amazing achievement': Leeds site manager wins a housebuilding 'Oscar'

The 37-year-old has scooped the top award

A Redrow site manager is celebrating after being recognised among the industry’s best, securing a prestigious Seal of Excellence Award from the National Home Building Council (NHBC).

Michael Burnell has been awarded the coveted accolade as part of this year’s Pride in the Job Awards.

Now in its 46th year and widely considered the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry, Pride in the Job has become the benchmark for exceptional site managers.

Earlier this year Michael, 37, who has worked for Redrow for the past 12 years, won an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award, the first phase of the annual competition.

Michael has been awarded for his work as site manager at Redrow’s Centurion Fields development, located on Manston Lane in Leeds.

“This is such an amazing achievement for the team at Centurion Fields, to win a Seal of Excellence Award and six Pride in the Job Quality Awards on the bounce as a whole team shouldn't go unrecognised,” said Michael, who lives in West Ardsley with his wife.

This is Michael’s second Seal of Excellence Award, his sixth Pride in the Job Quality Award and his fourth win for his work at Centurion Fields.

He added: “I’d like to thank all the development team, internal and external from departments involved, all the contractors for their work and support in delivering this achievement and higher management for endless support.”

Every site manager who is registered with the NHBC is automatically entered into the awards, with only a select few being awarded the Seal of Excellence from hundreds of entrants, showcasing the top 5% in British housebuilding.

The judges look at a range of key criteria, including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety, helping to build quality standards across both developments and teams.

John Handley, managing director at Redrow Yorkshire, said: “Congratulations to Michael and the team at Centurion Fields. These awards showcase what it takes to be a top site manager and demonstrate our long-term commitment to looking after our customers.”

Centurion Fields will eventually feature 200 properties, with a selection of three and four-bedroom designs from Redrow’s Heritage Collection.
