Photos capture stunning ‘aerial ballet’ of birds in Leeds garden
‘I was looking for interactions between birds. And (they) obliged”
A wildlife fan has captured the "aerial ballet" of birds in a Leeds garden.
Martin Goff wanted to document the energetic antics of the feathered visitors. He took the photos in the garden of a home on the outskirts of Leeds on Monday (September 7).
The incredible images include those of goldfinches, great tits, a Eurasian jay and two greenfinches appearing to have a mid-air conversation.
Martin said: "These were taken on Monday in a friend's garden on the outskirts of Leeds. As usual, I was looking for interactions between birds, squabbles over food and perches. And the birds obliged.
"There was a split-second encounter between two greenfinches that produced an almost choreographed image, with both birds suspended in the air and appearing to face one another in conversation.
"Two goldfinches are also seen beak to beak as having a mid-air chat or doing aerial ballet, while two great tits are seen squabbling, both wanting the same prime perching spot.
"I was also impressed by a Eurasian jay I captured just as it launches into flight from a woodland perch, its broad wings spread dramatically and its distinctive blue wing feathers clearly visible."
