'Marching on together to the end': Leeds undertaker unveils Leeds United-themed hearse

A Leeds businessman has unveiled a Leeds United-themed hearse, offering supporters a distinctive way to pay tribute to the club on their final journey.

The customised vehicle, which launched at the end of last year, is wrapped in the club’s blue and yellow colours and features the Leeds United badge on its bonnet, alongside a large mural of Elland Road.

The hearse was designed and commissioned by local undertaker Lewis Northing, who said the idea came to him following the recent death of a relative who was a lifelong Leeds United supporter.

“We’ve got the Leeds badge on the front and the deck inside where the coffin goes. We’ve had the entire car wrapped as well with a Leeds United theme,” the 21-year-old told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

A Ford Cardinal originally manufactured in Australia, the hearse also features the club’s famous “Marching On Together” slogan along its side, with “We Love You Leeds” displayed across the rear.

Since its launch, Lewis said the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive. “They’re all just so shocked because it’s completely unique. There’s not another one in the world. I’ve had people saying, ‘I can’t wait to have my last journey in that.’ People have emailed to ask for prices, so they can start planning now. It’s been really positive.”

The hearse has already been used for a funeral in Rothwell, with further bookings confirmed and interest coming from across Leeds and as far afield as Northampton.

Lewis believes there is a growing market for club-themed hearses as more families move away from traditional black vehicles in favour of personalised options that reflect individual lives, passions and interests.

He also said there is scope for similar designs for other clubs in the future.

With lifelong supporters already expressing interest, Lewis believes the blue-and-yellow hearse could soon become a familiar sight at funerals for Leeds United’s most dedicated fans.
