Police issue further appeal for missing soldier, 28, who has not been seen for a month

Police have issued an appeal to the public for their help in tracking down a missing soldier who has not been seen for almost a month.

Lance Corporal Ryan Rudd hasn’t been seen since the early hours of February 15, at the New Inn in Selby, after going on a night out with two friends on Valentine’s night.

The 28-year-old was reported missing to North Yorkshire Police on March 1 by a senior member of the Army after he failed to return to his barracks at Catterick Garrison.

It is not clear as to when Mr Rudd was expected back in barracks, or if he was on leave, but it is understood the two week delay is being investigated.

The last confirmed sighting of Ryan was at 02.54am on Sunday 15 Feb 2026 walking past the Old Flour Factory towards New Millgate.

He is described as white, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with dark brown hair. When he was last seen he was wearing a black t-shirt, blue hooded top and black trousers.

Since he was reported missing, officers from North Yorkshire Police have trawled through CCTV and carried out door-to-door enquiries.

Specialist officers have also searched the force called ‘key locations’ on both land and water using equipment such as police drones to scour hard‑to‑reach areas.

Ryan’s mother Kerstin and father Ken have released a new image of Ryan along with this statement: “As a family, we are devastated and struggling to put into words how we feel.

“We would ask anyone who has even the smallest piece of information that could help bring Ryan home to please contact the police. We are desperate to have him back.”

Inspector Ciaran Conlon from North Yorkshire Police said: “This is an extremely difficult time for Ryan’s family, and they are currently receiving support from specialist officers.

“As with any investigation, we remain open minded and will continue to explore all lines of enquiry, but we must accept the possibility that Ryan has entered the River Ouse.”

Anyone who sees Ryan should call 999 immediately, while anyone with information that could help police with the search is asked to call 101.
